Launch of the Institute for Technology and Humanity

November 21, 2023

Today sees the launch of a major interdisciplinary initiative that aims to meet the challenges and opportunities of new technologies as they emerge, today and far into the future.

We are delighted to announce that we have joined our sister centres, CHIA and CSER, as part of the Institute for Technology and Humanity at the University of Cambridge.

“The new institute demonstrates that the University of Cambridge is rising to this challenge of ensuring that human technologies do not exceed and overwhelm human capacities and human needs,”

Prof Deborah Prentice, Cambridge’s Vice-Chancellor.

The Institute Director, Dr Stephen Cave, has given an interview with BBC News where he highlights the hopes for the centre to enable researchers to better understand the “double-edged sword” that is AI. He has also spoken to The Times about some of the critical research underway at the Institute, which looks at the intersection of emerging technologies and social impact.
