Biography
Nóra Ní Loideáin is Director and Lecturer in Law of the Information Law and Policy Centre at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London. Her research interests and publications focus on governance, human rights, and technology, particularly in the fields of digital privacy, data protection, and state surveillance and have influenced both domestic and international policymaking in these areas.
She is a Visiting Lecturer for the LL.M. Privacy and Information Law module at King’s College London, a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Humanities on the Media and Democracy Project, and a Research Associate of the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL).
Her forthcoming publications include her PhD from the University of Cambridge on the mass surveillance of citizens’ communications metadata for national security and law enforcement purposes under European human rights law. This is the focus of her forthcoming monograph - Data Privacy, Serious Crime, and EU Policymaking (Oxford University Press). She is also co-author of the forthcoming textbook: Lynskey & Ní Loideáin, Data Protection Law and Policy (Oxford University Press).
Nóra is also an editor of the leading peer-review journal International Data Privacy Law (Oxford University Press). Prior to her academic career, she was a Legal and Policy Officer for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of Ireland and clerked for the Irish Supreme Court.
